Η Barbara Gordon γνωστή σαν Batgirl είναι ένας πλασματικός χαρακτήρας που έκανε την εμφάνισή του πρώτη φορά στην DC Comics και σε άλλα media. Δημιουργοί ήταν οι  Gardner Fox και Carmine Infantino. Η ιδέα γεννήθηκε όταν το 1960, ο DC Editor Julius Schwartz  ζήτησε από τους παραγωγούς της σειράς Batman, να προσθέσουν και ένα γυναικείο χαρακτήρα.

Βιογραφία
Η Barbara Gordon ήταν μια καριερίστρια, με διδακτορικό στη βιβλιοθηκονομία καθώς επίσης και head της Gotham City δημόσιας βιβλιοθήκης. Κόρη του αστυνόμου James Gordon, η ιστορία της ξεκινάει όταν βρίσκεται σε μια απαγωγή κατά του Bruce Wayne που είχε υποκινηθεί από τον  Killer Moth. Εκεί, κέντρισε  το ενδιαφέρον του Batman, ο οποίος της ζητούσε να εγκαταλείψει την καριέρα της σαν super ήρωας καθώς θεωρούσε ότι ήταν κάτι επικύνδινο για τις γυναίκες.

Στην επόμενη δεκαετία (1960 -1970 ) η Barbara, θα μετακομίσει στην Washington και εκεί θα γνωρίσει τον Superman. Οι δυο τους θα γίνουν καλοί φίλοι και έτσι η Batgirl θα εμφανιστεί και σε κάποιες ιστορίες του.

Το 1988 μέσα από το comic “Τhe Killing Joke” η Batgirl θα τραυματιστεί από ένα χτύπημα του Joker και θα μείνει παράλυτη.

Μέχρι σήμερα ο χαρακτήρας της θεωρείται κάτι παραπάνω από ένα απλό κόμικ. Για πολλούς αποτελεί σύμβολο δύναμης ενώ γενικά αποτελεί  ένα θετικό μήνυμα στους ανθρώπους που έχουν υποστεί παράλυση. Στις επόμενες εμφανίσεις της θα τη δούμε πίσω από τον υπολογιστή να μάχεται κατά του κακού.

 

TV
Η γυναίκα που καθιέρωσε την Batgirl στην τηλεόραση ήταν η Yvonne Joyce Craig.  Η Αμερικανίδα ηθοποιός μέσα από τη σειρά “Batman” (1960) ταυτίστηκε όσο καμία άλλη με το ρόλο.
