“I grew up in the church. I accepted Christ when I was seven years old. At the age of sixteen, I decided to dedicate my life to serving Jesus while attending a mission camp worship service. My biggest accomplishment is all the times I’ve helped young kids find a relationship with Christ. And my biggest goal in life is to tell everyone about Jesus. I’m here in New York trying to plant churches. It’s a mission field unlike any other. There are people here from all over the world, so the message you spread here can travel anywhere. I know all my answers are super churchy, but feel free to share it. I won’t be reading the comment section.”

“When we go to the parent-teacher conferences, they always tell us that he has difficulty paying attention and can’t sit still in his seat, but that he has a big heart and always sticks up for kids who are getting picked on. “The other team’s snow fort is higher than ours, so we’re trying to build some walls. It’s going to be a tough battle, because all they have to do is stand up and they can throw snowballs right into our fort. But I think we have the most friendship so that will be an advantage. We’ve known each other since we were three and we’re on the same soccer team. So if one person gets hit in the face with a snowball, everyone else will help to recover them.”

“I grew up in a blue collar family. My dad was a printer—a union guy. So he didn’t have the financial resources to pay for my college or law school. I had to make my own way. I flipped burgers during the week for frat guys at the Student Union. I covered my tuition by spending my summers in the Marine reserves. I’m trying to make sure my kids don’t have to do all that stuff. I want them to be able to backpack through Europe, or volunteer in Central America. Meaningful stuff. If my son wants to be a poet or an Indian chief, that’s fine with me. I work 60 or 70 hours a week to make sure they can do whatever they want. I miss a lot of stuff, though. I have to hear about the soccer games second hand. That’s why the snowstorm this weekend was so great. No school commitments. No work commitments. We didn’t do much at all. Just sat around and read the newspaper or watched TV. Θα σας μιλήσω για το φίλο μου τον βιβλιοπώλη, ο οποίος τοιχοκόλλησε ένα χαρτί στο κατάστημά του, ζητώντας κάποιον φοιτητή με μηχανάκι να του κάνει κάποια θελήματα για μια ώρα την ημέρα, έναντι μιας μικρής αμοιβής. Τρόμαξε, όταν μέσα σε δύο ώρες από την ανάρτηση της ανακοίνωσης περισσότεροι από 100 άνθρωποι, όχι φοιτητές, αλλά τριαντάρηδες και πάνω έσπευσαν να διεκδικήσουν τη “θέση’’. Δεν γνωρίζω ποιον επέλεξε τελικά, αλλά από ότι μου έλεγε, οι 80 από αυτούς ήταν κάτοχοι μεταπτυχιακών τίτλων σπουδών και περίπου οι μισοί ήταν ήδη παντρεμένοι…

Θα σας πω για το Γιώργο, που ο εργοδότης τον κάλεσε να παίξει με τους συναδέλφους του στα χαρτιά — ναι στην τράπουλα — τις τέσσερις απολύσεις που σκόπευε να κάνει. Ο Γιώργος δεν δέχτηκε, και ήταν ένας εκ των απολυμένων. Έκανε μήνες να ξαναβρεί δουλειά. Σήμερα κάπου δουλεύει, αλλά έχει μήνες να πληρωθεί

Είμαι εδώ και χρόνια με έναν εκπληκτικό άνθρωπο, όμως είναι μακριά μου. Προσπαθώ να βρω δουλειά για να μετακομίσω κοντά του, μα είναι πολύ δύσκολο, δεν υπάρχουν ευκαιρίες. Κάποιες φορές νιώθω την έλλειψη του όμως όταν τον έχω κοντά μου νιώθω τόσο υπέροχα που με κάνει να αντέχω.

Έχεις σκεφτεί πως θα ήταν αν έπεφτες στις ράγες του τρένου? Εγώ το σκέφτομαι. Κάθε φορά. Ούτε για καλό ούτε για κακό. Απλά για το “πώς”. Κάθε φορά που βλέπω την ράγα θέλω να πέσω, χωρίς να με νοιάζει το μετά. Αλλά μετά σκέφτομαι ότι έχω πιο πολλά πράγματα να κάνω, όπως το να κηνυγήσω τα τέρατα που βρίσκονται μέσα στη μισάνοιχτη ντουλάπα μου
